Using art to immortalise:

I first picked up Defeat Into Victory by Bill Slim while researching psychology and leadership. I didn't expect to become so absorbed by the history of the Fourteenth Army and the Burma Campaign, but the deeper I went, the more fascinated I became.

That experience inspired the illustration, my interpretation of the Fourteenth Army insignia and a tribute to Slim and the “Forgotten Army.” Details of their story are woven throughout the artwork, turning the insignia into something that rewards a closer look.

I created this short video to take that idea further and give people a taste of what it felt like to discover the story through Slim's book. It isn't necessarily an easy book for the average reader, but if you're willing to dive into the military terminology and historical detail, there is an extraordinary story underneath it.

The illustration itself was drawn by hand, with AI used to assist the three-dimensional rendering as seen in the video.
